As the Flomaton Hurricanes took to the field on Thursday to play for the state championship, the crowd in the stands wasn’t the only support that they were receiving.

Here back in Escambia County, schools all across our area were pulling for the Hurricanes to come out on top, including our own T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal High Schools.

“We didn’t face Flomaton this season so I wouldn’t exactly call them a rival but they are a county school and we would support them as if they needed bread or water. As a county school system, we want all young people to be successful. These kids were able to go out and be successful, not only for their school, but for our entire county and we back them all the way. It’s important to back our kids and our superintendent,” W.S. Neal principal Matthew Hodge said.

The Eagles wore green in support of their fellow Escambia County classmates on Thursday and they posted a Facebook post that simply read, “Today we are all Hurricanes.”

T.R. Miller also stepped up to support the Flomaton Hurricanes.

Earlier this season, the Hurricanes defeated the Tigers in a wild football game.

That defeat did not hinder Miller from supporting their fellow county school to take the state title win.

“We played an awesome game with y’all this year! We are friends off the field! So, the TRM Tigers wish our fellow class 3A region 1 team Flomaton the best as they play for the state championship tomorrow! Bring the championship back to Escambia County! Go Canes!”, was the Facebook post on the TRM Athletics page earlier last week.

“It is important to teach the kids what it means to have great sportsmanship and support your neighbor and they did just that. Of course, we wanted to defeat Flomaton this season but it was their year to shine and we support them all the way. We are extremely proud of them and for the great season they have accomplished,” said TRM principal Doug Gerety.

The students and faculty of TRM had a check of the game going on virtually everywhere on campus and some students even attended the game to support their neighbor.

Every school in the county this past week, showed the same support and display of good sportsmanship to the Hurricanes.
