On Friday, Nov. 30, 2018 our loved one, Cora Ashley Washington, departed this life at Crown Heath Care in Mobile, Ala. at the age of 95. She was born in Castleberry, Ala. on Mar. 14, 1923 to the late John and Angeline Ashley. Cora was the second child of seven children.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Emma Reed; three brothers, John, Charlie and Roosevelt Ashley; two husbands, William Dillahunt and George Washington, Sr.
Cora united with the Second Saint Siloam Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully as an usher and a member of the Missionary Society until her health began to fail.
She was employed as a domestic worker in homes and at the City Café in Brewton, where she also cooked.
She made many friends along the way with her acts of kindness. Cora was a people person and led a lifestyle which allowed her to serve people. She helped others with various tasks just out of the goodness of her heart and she rarely met a stranger. Cora loved going to church, watching television, especially westerns and game shows. She also enjoyed simple things like eating vanilla ice cream, shelling peas, or just sitting out on her front porch. Her presence in our lives was a gift and for that, we’ll always be grateful.
She is survived by one sister, Annie Ashley Johnson of Houston, TX.; one brother, Fred Lee (Naomi) Ashley; and a sister-in-law, Francis Ashley, all of Houston, TX. She also leaves to cherish her memories, devoted friends, Minister Johnnie Hall and J. Diana Hall and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services were held on Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. at Second Saint Siloam Baptist Church with interment at New Hope Baptist Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Directors directing.
