EDWARD WEAVER

BREWTON

Mr. Edward Weaver, 83, passed away Wednesday, Dec.19, 2018 in a Pensacola hospital.

Mr. Weaver was born in Brewton,  and after serving over 22 years in the U.S. Army, returned to the Brewton area. He received his nursing degree while in the Army.  He was of the Christian faith.

He is survived by three daughters, Julie (Mark) Brantley of New Brockton, Ala., Janice (Allen) Kirby of Brewton, and Jeannie (Kevin) Kennington of Enterprise; a special nephew, Clyde Weaver of Owassa; five grandchildren, Brittany Fiore, Ashley Aldridge, Whitney Lunsford, Kyle Kennington, and Bailey Kennington; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with Bro. John Logsdon officiating.  Interment, with military honors, followed in Weaver Family Cemetery.

Visitation was held at Craver’s Funeral Home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.

Pallbearers were Mark Brantley, Kevin Kennington, Allen Kirby, Clyde Weaver, Cody Anthony, and Jeff Reeves.

MARY LYDA GUY EMMONS

BREWTON

Mrs. Mary Lyda Guy Emmons, 87, of Pineview Cemetery Road in the Pineview community, passed away Saturday evening, Dec. 22, 2018 at her residence after an extended illness.  Mrs. Emmons was a native of Frisco City, Ala. and a long time resident of Escambia County.  She was a homemaker, enjoyed cooking, going to church, fishing, Alabama football and most of all loved and cherished all of her family.  Mrs. Emmons was of the Holiness faith.

Survivors include her son, Melvin Ray Emmons of Pineview; daughters, Deborah Jean Carden of Pineview, Patricia Diane (Danny) Hendricks of Pineview; Shirley Ann Traweek of Pineview; brother, Wilbur A. Guy of Brewton; sister, Madie Lee Chavers of Mobile; three grandchildren, Dana Emmons, Candice Carnley, Jesse Robert “Buddy” (Beth) Traweek all of Pineview; four great-grandchildren, Tyler Jackson, Jerry Carnley III, Cooper Carnley and Madelyn Traweek all of Pineview.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Carney “Buddy” Emmons Jr. (1990) and son in law, Butch Traweek.

Funeral services for Emmons were held Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home Inc with Bro. Tim Chavers, Bro. Tony Richburg and Bro. James Peacock officiating.  Interment followed in Pineview Cemetery in the Pineview Community with Craver’s Funeral Home Inc. of Brewton directing.

Visitation was held Wednesday evening, Dec. 26, 2018 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Craver’s Funeral Home Inc.

Pallbearers were Jesse Traweek, Tyler Jackson, Jerry Carnley, Sammy Emmons, Steve Chavers, Wesley Emmons.

Honorary pallbearers were Danny Hendricks, Bobby Franklin, Charles Wilson, Donnie Wilson, Scott Emmons, Tracey Emmons.

 

BILLY CHARLES BALLARD

CASTLEBERRY

Billy Charles Ballard,73, of Castleberry, Ala. passed away on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018 at his home.

Mr. Ballard was born in Castleberry, and had been a lifetime member of the community where he worked as a fabricator in the window production industry.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Mitt and Elvia Downing Ballard; brother, Earl Ballard; sister, Betty Rowell, and son-in-law, Joe Bordayo, Sr.

Mr. Ballard was of the Holiness faith. He is survived by his wife, Melissa Ballard of Appleton; daughters, Wanda B. Bordayo of Brewton, and Annette (Farris) Kelley of Appleton; brothers, Bobby Ray Ballard of Castleberry, and Mitchell Ballard of Repton; sisters, Ellen Wilcox of Castleberry, Myrna Bailey of Birmingham, Patricia Baggett of Repton, Peggy Johnson of Belleville, Judy Gray of Castleberry, Becky Davidson of Castleberry; grandchildren, John (Jessica) Bordayo, Tyrone Kelley, Elizabeth (Austin) Evans; great-grandchildren, Bryant Bordayo and Caden Bordayo.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2018 at Craver’s Funeral Home Chapel beginning at 10 a.m. until an 11 a.m. service time with Bro. Jeff Harris officiating.

Pallbearers were Stevie Powell, David Garrett, Bobby Ballard, Mitchell Ballard, Otis McGhee, Jr., Wade Wilcox.

Honorary pallbearers were Donnie Powell and Tyrone Kelley.

Interment followed in Weaver Cemetery in Brewton with Craver’s Funeral Home directing.

MARGIE REE DUBOSE JOHNSON

BREWTON

Mrs. Margie Ree DuBose Johnson age 82 of Brandenburg Street East Brewton passed away Wednesday afternoon December 26, 2018 at her residence after a brief illness. She was a native of Covington County, Alabama and a life-long resident of East Brewton, Alabama. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Damascus Assembly of God Church, An avid reader, and a Homemaker. She enjoyed taking care of and spending time with her family. She also doted on her Grandcat, A siamese named Princess, who always brought a smile to her face.

She is survived by her sons, Donnie Johnson and Bobby (Kathy) Johnson of East Brewton; two brothers, Charles (Mary) DuBose  and Billy (Eva) Dubose of Damascus; a grandson, Matthew (Heather) Johnson; two great-granddaughters, Riley Johnson, Allie Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hillary H. and Bertha Mae Taylor DuBose and her husband of 64 years, John Lee Johnson; two brothers, Delmas DuBose and Gene DuBose; two sisters, Merlene DuBose Pate and Wilma DuBose Williams.

Visitation was held Saturday, Dec. 29, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Greer officiating. Interment was held in Damascus Cemetery with WIlliams Memorial Funeral Home directing.

DIANE SIMMONS DEAN

JAY

Mrs. Diane Simmons Dean age 69, of Jay, Florida, passed away Friday, December 28, 2018 at Jay Hospital after an extended illness.

Mrs. Dean was born in Century,  and had been a lifetime member of the Jay community where she was a homemaker.  She enjoyed cooking, and family always went to her for long lost family recipes.  She loved her church and her family.  Mrs. Dean was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Camie Dunsford Simmons, and her sister, Vanessa Olinger.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jackie R. Dean of Jay, FL; son, Matthew Kirk Dean of Corning, N.Y.; daughter, Heather (Shannon) Edwards of Jay, FL; brother, Roger Simmons of Pensacola; sisters, Julia Major of Pensacola, FL, and Angela Sue Husfelt of Milton; granddaughter, Shawna Anell Dean of Corning, N.Y.; a number of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Visitation was held on Monday, Dec. 31, 2018 at Century Church of Christ from 11 a.m. until a 1 p.m. service time with Minister Jesse Claunch officiating.

Interment followed  in Jay Cemetery, Jay.

Pallbearers were Trey Emmons, David Gardner, Kevin Rusch, Chris Hawkins, Thomas Simmons, David Dean.

Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Scott, Steve Stanton, Mike Campbell.

Craver’s Funeral Home directed.

FELTON CLARK HARDY

BREWTON

Felton Clark Hardy, a native of Brewton, was born to the late Claude Hardy and Gladys Gulley Floyd, Feb. 24, 1938.

Felton, united with Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. Later in life, after a career in the military he reunited with his home church and served faithfully until God called him home.

He attended Booker T. Washington Elementary and Junior High School and graduated from Southern Normal High School in 1957. Felton was drafted into the United States Army in 1960 and retired after 20 years of service to his Country. He retired with three tours in Korea, one in Germany, one in Tulle, Greenland, and the rest stateside. After retirement, Felton was employed with the Alabama Correctional Facilities, Holman and Fountain, where he was affectionately known as Chief.

Felton was a devoted member of the Brewton Sportsman’s Club, were he served in numerous roles and the Baptist Hill Cemetery Committee.

Hardy was an avid fan of the University of Alabama football team and the Pittsburgh Steelers. For many years he prepared meals for the Pittsburgh Steelers scouts during their visits to the Senior Bowl. He was very active in the community preparing meals for various occasions. Now Heaven has a new Cook.

Felton leaves to cherish his memories, a devoted wife of 57 years, Amanda Stallworth; daughter (love of his life) Misty Lashan Amanda Hardy (Thomas) McFadden, Alabaster, Alabama; brothers, Kenny and Jerry Hardy, Chicago, Illinois and Eric Hardy, Scottsdale, Arizona; sister, Matatha (Julio) Rivera, Pensacola, Florida; aunts, Delores (Charles) Stallworth, Mobile, Alabama and Helen Barton, Brewton, Alabama; uncle, Walter Coleman, Brewton, Alabama; sister-in-law, Margaret Sutton (Samuel), Brewton,  Alabama; brother-in-law, Elmore Stallworth, Brewton, Alabama; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and a special friend, Willie (Carl) Brown, Brewton, Alabama.

The  Memorial Service of U.S. Army Retiree Hardee was held Thurs., Dec. 27, at 11 a.m., at  Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 720 Sowell Road, Brewton, Alabama; Pastor Eric Andrews, Presiding; Minister Walter Coleman, Officiating.
