Coastal Alabama Community College’s Art department had two events to help local restaurant, Drexell and Honeybees.
Drexell and Honeybees is a donation-only restaurant located in Brewton.
The mission of the restaurant is “We feed the need.”
On April 9, the department hosted a Raku Kiln Firing.
At this event, those who participated got to buy a piece of pottery made by local artists and art teachers, glaze the piece, fire it in the kiln, and could take their new piece home. This gave the community an opportunity to see how different pieces of pottery were made. There were also many games played and refreshments for the community. This event brought in a generous amount of proceeds to be donated. On April 23, the art department also held the Empty Bowls Soup Fundraiser. At this event, the community gathered together and bought bowls, made by the art department, and filled them with different soups. Prices of the bowls ranged from $10-$30. This event had an incredible turnout. The art department was ecstatic to give all of the proceeds made from the two events to the owner of Drexell and Honeybees, Ms. Lisa McMillan. A huge thank you to the art department at CACC for hosting two great events for the community to come together and enjoy.
