   Since 2016, Paws Crossed Dog Rescue Inc. has saved over 500 strays in the Brewton area. Paws Crossed has provided medical care such as spay/neuters, shots, food, and shelter for hundreds of animals. In the first half of June alone, these costs have gone up to $3,000, said board member of Paws Crossed Renee Johnson. Spaying and neutering can cost between $80 to $200 for a single dog or cat. Paws Crossed won $10,000 for fifth place in Wind Creeks inaugural Partners in Progress Video contest.

   Founder of Paws Crossed and now a board member Edith Kelley, says the donation is nothing short of a blessing. Finding the competition came through a facebook notification, when an anonymous supporter shared a link to the admission requirements for Wind Creeks inaugural Partners in Progress Video Contest. Coincidentally, a college student had previously made a video months in advance. The video contains pictures of rescues, a mission statement, fundraisers, and a general basis of their organization. 

   The yearly contest traditionally has big players in the running, organizations containing thousands of participants. Paws Crossed being so local has not reached that level of growth, but shows the same amount of potential, according to Wind Creek in a statement recognizing the smaller organization. 

   To win the contest you have to have a certain amount of people voting for you. “People in the area voted every single day for us,” said Kelley.

   Because Paws Crossed is a non- profit, it depends on donations from the community. You can make your own contributions online at a paypal link on the official website for Paws Crossed, by mail at 110 Wilson Street, Brewton, Alabama, or in person at Brewton Animal Hospital.

  “We are a local rescue doing a job that will take much more than the six women on our board can handle, the help of our community is the only way this will work.” said Kelley.
