The Escambia County Commission approved submitting an application for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to fund for the Ridge Road Water System Improvements project during the county commissioners meeting on Monday. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is accepting applications for CDBG grants through the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. The commission’s application will be requesting $350,000. The Escambia County Commission determined that the existing public water services in the Ridge Road Community are in dire need of rehabilitation.
“If the grant is funded, the City of Brewton Utilities Department will provide $100,000 in matching funds,” County Administrator Tony Sanks said. “The City of Brewton Utilities Department will provide for the long-term operation and maintenance costs of the improved facilities.”
Sanks said Ridge Road Water System Improvements project will take place in the Springhill area south of Ridge Road.
“We will be extending the existing 6″ lines so all of the residents will be within 1,000′ of a fire hydrant,” Sanks said. “This also includes running a 6″ line down Ball Street to the Woodland Ridge Mobile Home Park, setting a fire hydrant, and running new lines in the park. Also replacing some old lines which have been a maintenance problem and replacing old water meters.”
There isn’t an official date for when the project will be completed. If the application for the grant is approved, more information on the project will be finalized.
