Originally from Oklahoma, Marinda Ingram-Calloway began grooming animals in 2014.
“I went to school in Oklahoma at Fresh Pet Academy. Originally, I had done secretarial work and then realized I wanted to work with animals. I just decided I could do this and went to school,” said Calloway.
Owning and operating her own grooming, boarding, and retail shop in Oklahoma, Calloway built a business up in 4 short years before relocating to Castleberry in 2018.
“We ended up coming to Ala. to be closer to my husband’s family,” said Calloway. “Now, I have brought my daughter on board with me. She apprentices under me. We ended up coming to Ala. to be closer to my husband’s family.”
Together, Marinda and daughter Kirstin are serving the community of Brewton.
“We cannot imagine giving up what we love to do so we are starting over building new relationships with new pets. We strive to continue working in the pet industry and continue to attend grooming seminars to stay current with the newest equipment, safety practices, and styles to provide our clients,” stated Calloway
Currently the shop is open Tues. – Fri. by appointment only. The services include: bath, de-shed, nail dremeling, ear cleaning, and more.
“We do bathing, de-shed, we dremel the nails and not just cut so we can smooth out the edges. We do anal glands and freshen the breathe, clean the ears and cut the hair,” said Calloway.
Out of curtesy of the dogs, the two have chosen to take on a set number of dogs to each day to ensure the best quality of services.
“We’ve chosen to do no more than 8 dogs a day. That is so we have good time management for the dog,” said Calloway.
“We try to stager the appointments, and we say 2-3 hours for each dog,” she added.
All in all, the mother-daughter duo love what they do and are excited for the new opportunity within the city.
Calloway concluded, “I cannot imagine doing anything else. I like to work with dogs.”
