Shoppers in Alabama should spend about $362 million more during the holidays this year than last year.
During the holiday shopping months of November and December, it is estimated that Alabamians will buy more than $12.4 billion in goods, based on the Alabama Retail Association’s prediction of taxed sales for those months.
This number represents a 3% increase beyond the $12 billion spent in the 2018 holiday shopping period.
The state projection lines up with the national holiday forecast of 3.8% and 4.2% throughout the country.
Locally, the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas bazaar could potentially benefit from the projected sales.
At the event, the chamber is inviting retail merchants as well as artists and crafters to set up booths. Providing an opportunity for the community to shop for gifts, unique holiday decorations and one of a kind art pieces, the event is set for Dec. 8 from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. in Dogwood Hills Park.
An afternoon of entertainment, local choirs will perform Christmas music throughout the event. Festive food will be provided as well as a special Christmas movie showing.
The family-friendly event will encourage local shopping for Christmas and provide a backdrop for a community gathering.
All booth rentals will pay a flat fee of $25.00. Each booth rental should provide its own table and tent. Electricity will be available for lighting. Food vendors will pay 10% of the gross sales
