On Jan. 3, 2020, Escambia County welcomed its first new baby of the new year.
SaRiya De’Asia Smith was born to Keya Peterson and Terrell Smith of Brewton.
She was early, three weeks early. They were not intended to schedule her until the 17th,” said her mother, Keya Peterson.
She was born at D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital in Brewton.
SaRiya weighed 5 pounds and 13 ounces and was 18 inches long.
SaRiya is the granddaughter of Carolyn Herbert, Christopher Peterson, Daphne Smith-McMillan and the great grand-daughter of Linda Smith, Carrie Peterson, and Margaret Herbert.
Going home, SaRiya joins three sisters – Kamryn, Charla, and Malaysia.
“I’ve got some help, my oldest girl has been a big help,” said Peterson.
All in all, Peterson is happy and thankful for her new baby.
Peterson concluded, “She is healthy, and she is a good baby. She sleeps most of time.”
