APD investigates death

The Atmore Police Department is seeking information in regard to a death investigation at a residence on Jones Street.
“On Thursday, March 26, 2020, at approximately 10:22 p.m., the Atmore Police Department received a call of a burglary in progress of a residence at 71 Jones Street, Atmore,” Chief Chuck Brooks said in a release. “Officers were immediately dispatched to the address.”
Brooks said when officers arrived, they surrounded the residence.
“Officers then observed where the residence had been forcefully entered,” he said. “Officers entered the home and began doing a room by room search for any violators. Officers then discovered in one of the bedrooms, a badly decomposing body believed to be a female. The name of the female is not being released until positive identification is confirmed by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.”
Brooks said the APD investigating this case as a homicide, and encourages anyone with information concerning the case to contact the department at 251-368-9141.
