If Superintendent Billy Hines receives a contract extension from the Escambia County Board of Education, he will have a four-year rather than a two-year contract.
The board agreed last week to extend the superintendent's contract term from two years to four years, and the members also notified Hines of his contract's expiration June 1. That notification is part of Hines' contract, but the board is expected to consider renewing that contract soon. Like his predecessors, Hines has been on a two-year contract.
The board unanimously approved the extension.
Also discussed was the procedure by which the superintendent would receive a raise. The board voted to use the Alabama Professional Education Personnel Evaluation Program to evaluate the superintendent's performance and not award a raise unless raises are awarded to all teachers.
