Mr. Raymond Mason Chavers, 75, of Whispering Pine Road, died Monday, April 7, 2008, at his residence after a brief illness. He was a native and life-long resident of Escambia County. He was a member of East Brewton Church of God, a U.S. Marine Veteran, a member of American Legion and a retired conductor from CSX with 29 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Faye Byrd Chavers of Brewton; three sons, Charles (Ruth) Chavers of Molino, Fla., Terry Chavers of Mobile, David Chavers of Brewton; two brothers, Willie Chavers and Franklin Chavers, both of Brewton; two sisters, Celia Kate Chavers of Brewton, and Frances James of Opp; five grandchildren, Ashley Chavers, Charlie Chavers, Andrew Chavers, Amanda Chavers, and Tabitha Chavers; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held April 9, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 10, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Felton Stewart and the Rev. James Sturdivant officiating. Burial will follow at Beulah Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
