Escambia County School System held a special called board meeting on Tues. The main topic of discussion was the reopening of schools. Each board member was given a copy of Alabama’s Roadmap Back to School. Superintendent John Knott asked the board to review the plan as the school system moves forward in developing their own plan of action.
“I asked all of our board members to read the entire plan,” said Knott. “This plan is only for guidance and considerations for the school systems to consider as we develop our back to school plans,” he continued.
Dr. Mackey on Friday announced that school would resume and students would be given a virtual, in-person, or blended option moving forward. The details of reopening and academic plans were left completely up to the individual school system.
“This is not a mandated provision supplied by the state. It is full of very good guidance and guidelines to follow. It gives us a tool box to help us develop our own individual plan. We had already started working to develop a template for our own plan before this came out,” said Knott.
Knott explained to the board that the ECSS is in its early stages of development. As the planning process moves forward, he said that he will update the board and public on any further information regarding the reopening.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 10 am on July 23, 2020 in the Brewton Central Office.
