An inmate was pronounced deceased within the Escambia County Detention Center last week.
According to Sheriff Heath Jackson, the inmate was unresponsive during a daily check.
The report from Sheriff Jackson read:
“On 7-23-2020, an inmate at the Escambia County Detention Center was unresponsive during a cell check that was being conducted by the staff. The elderly inmate was pronounced deceased at the scene from what appeared to be natural causes. As normal protocol for all in custody deaths, ALEA Agents with the State Bureau of Investigations are conducting the investigation.”
