County spelling bee held

Escambia County, Ala. students participated in the annual Countywide Spelling Bee on Jan. 20.
The students were divided into two groups – third through fifth grades and sixth through eighth grades.
The following students participated in third through fifth grades, along with how they finished:
• John Barlow, Escambia County Middle School;
• Ryder Nease, Flomaton Elementary School;
• Jackson Rackard, Huxford Elementary School;
• Ryder Campbell, Pollard McCall Junior High School, third place;
• Russell Lassiter, PMJH, second place;
• Jazlyn Watson, Rachel Patterson Elementary School;
• Hayden Murphy, W.S. Neal Elementary School; and,
• Ethan Mendibles, W.S. Neal Middle School, first place.
The following students participated in sixth through eighth grades, along with how they finished:
• Imari Lemon, ECMS;
• Lilyanna Hammonds, FES, first place;
• Alayla Stallworth, HES;
• Bradley Campbell, PMJH, second place; and,
• William Sanders, WSNMS, third place.
First place winners will participate on Feb. 2 at 9 in the Flomaton High School library in the district spelling bee, which will include winners from Brewton City Schools. The district winner will represent Escambia County at the state spelling bee later this spring.
