Former Warhawk honored

Former Jefferson Davis Community College softball player Lakyn Newton has been named NAIA National softball player of the week along with Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) and Region XIII award.
Newton is now a senior infielder at Shorter College in Rome, Georgia.
Newton recorded eight hits in nine at-bats and scored three runs and drove in three more for Shorter as they posted a 4-0 record in the SSAC tournament. With the win, Shorter went to No. 7 in the polls.
Newton played with the Lady Warhawks from 2005-2006 and had 106 hits, 30 doubles, four homeruns, 67 RBIs and a career average of .381 while in Brewton.
Newton's current coach at Shorter College, Melanie Carter, seconded Nims thoughts of Newton and had even more to say about the senior.
