Finding funds for projects of any size can be difficult, but a challenge ended with a $20,000 boost to the construction of the new YMCAs Babe Ruth Fields.
The construction continues for the park that is situated on the grounds of the Brewton Area YMCA and can be seen along Belleville Avenue near the Brewton Municipal Stadium.
In an effort to increase funding, Ron Kirkland, YMCA Director, asked the Greater Brewton Foundation for an additional contribution.
In answer to the request, officials with GBF issued a challenge to the City of Brewton and Mayor Yank Lovelace responded.
“They issued a challenge that if they gave $10,000 that we should give $10,000 as well,” Lovelace said. “We accepted the challenge and made that donation.”
On hand for the donation was Ann Peach with Greater Brewton Foundation and Mayor Yank Lovelace representing the City of Brewton.
“These contributions will allow us to finish the Babe Ruth Field,” Kirkland said. “After talking to the construction folks, we’re told we could see it completed by late January.”
