Students Aspiring for Excellence's summer program recently learned the dangers of trains, railroads and railroad crossings courtesy of the Operation Life Saver program.
Nancy Hudson, executive director of the program, visited with students enrolled in the special summer program at W.S. Neal Middle School.
During the presentation, Hudson explained the workings of train engines and the dangers that lurk behind the lights and horns.
Hudson said the presentation at the local school is just one of hundreds presented across the state and the nation each year.
Hudson said although Operation Life Saver is not a part of railroad companies, the entities do support their efforts.
Hudson told the students a collision between a train and a vehicle, would be like a car running over a cola can.
Hudson also told the group that making the right decisions is the best way to stay safe.
Hudson said any organization wishing to be visited by Operation Life Saver is invited to contact them to schedule a session.
