Two area wrestlers finished their season as they competed in the AHSAA State Wrestling Championship matches last weekend.
W.S. Neal Wrestler Solomon Crapp, who is a junior, finished his second wrestling season by placing fourth in the 160 lb. division in the 1-4A Championships.
T.R. Miller Wrestler Brody Hayes, a freshman, did not place in the Championships, but finished his third season as one of eigh top wrestlers the 126 lb. weight division in the state.
Brody finished his season with a record of 45 wins and eight losses.
He went into the State Championships as the seventh seed in the 126 lb. weight class for 1-4A
His first match was against Gavin Monk from Montgomery Catholic, takingthe loss by being pinned in 1 minute and 28 seconds. This loss put him in the Consolation Rounds.
His second match was against Devin Pennington of Deschler. He managed to wrestle all 3 periods totaling 6 minutes, but lost by point decision 9-2. This being his second loss, he was then eliminated from contention.
Solomon’s season record was 26-7 and he went to the Championships as the third seed in the 160 lb. weight class for 1-4A.
His first match was against Zachary Carlton of New Hope. Solomon won by point decision 8-1. This win kept him in the Championship rounds.
His second match was against Shawn Sponsler of Montgomery Catholic, he lost 4 minutes and 52 seconds into the match by being pinned. This placed Solomon in the consolation rounds as well.
His third match was against Deacon Engle of Ohatchee, he won this match in 3 minutes and 25 seconds by pinning his opponent. This placed Solomon in the match against Caleb Haeger of Bayside Christian wrestling for the third place medal. This match took place on Saturday morning before the finals. Solomon did not allow his opponent to pin him, holding him off for all 6 minutes of the match, however he lost by point decision 5-3, leaving him in 4th place.
