One employee for the City of Brewton has garnered an award given only four times each year.
Lynn Walker, an employee at the Brewton Public Library, has been named Employee of the Quarter by city officials.
Library Director Lynn Jackson says Walker is a valuable addition to the library coming to the job 12 years ago.
“All my team members are great at what they do,” Jackson said. “All of them show dependability, flexibility, knowledge, friendliness, helpfulness.”
Add to those qualities, Lynn is also fearless to try new things, and to learn how when it’s something we have never seen before.” There’s not much the library crew won’t tackle, she said, and Walker is there leading the effort.
Walker graduated high school in Castleberry and then earned a children’s education associate’s degree from Reid State and then the fun began.
“After Miss Becky left I became the children’s librarian and the weekly schedule filled up really quickly,” Walker said.
A Monday class for special needs adults ran weekly for years until funding ran out, but there were plenty of other programs, like Tai Chi on Tuesdays and Thursdays
in the morning, line dancing on Tuesday evening from 4:30 to 5:30, Reading Wednesdays and Fridays open to help patrons with information from books to videos to technology lessons.
“They need help from understanding computers to smart phones and watches,” she said. “We have to stay current on a wide range of things. But I love the atmosphere here, my coworkers, and helping others is fulfilling.”
Walker organizes the popular summer reading program for children, and enjoys watching the “positive impact the library has on the community.” Libraries are not just about books anymore.
When she’s not at the library, predictably, Walker enjoys reading with Karen Kingsbury listed as her favorite author. She loves fitness, and works out daily with spin classes at the local gym. She recently attended the 10k bike ride with Auburn University star Bo Jackson along with a friend. Walker said she loves spending time with her two children and her grandson.
