A Monday ceremony attended by family, friends and local officials revealed the new name for the Escambia County Regional Child Advocacy Center.
The center, which became a reality in 2002, has been renamed for one of the people responsible for founding the center and its services.
The Kathy Hill Regional Child Advocacy Center will, no doubt, carry on the work that Kathy began six years ago in an effort to prosecute those who have been responsible for the abuse and/or neglect of innocent children.
Many times Kathy could be seen sitting quietly in the corner of the courtroom at the Escambia County Courthouse during trials against those accused of child abuse, child sexual abuse and even the murder of a small child.
As proceedings were held, Kathy watched, listened and took notes. After a particular trial, Kathy responded following a guilty verdict by saying at least no other children would be hurt by that person.
That was Kathy's goal - to stop the abuse, neglect and injuries to children who didn't have the power to protect themselves.
The Kathy Hill Child Advocacy Center was named for the woman who had a love for all children. The staff members have demonstrated the same love Kathy glowed with for children.
We applaud the efforts of those responsible for the renaming of the Child Advocacy Center to honor the work and dedication of Kathy Hill.
Although Kathy is no longer here to be an advocate for children, her legacy will live on through those who are left to carry on her work.
