With the holidays quickly approaching, you may have noticed the trees going up around the city.
Special trees are now being erected at Walmart to allow shoppers to participate in the 2022 Christmas Project.
Stephanie Walker, organizer for the Christmas Project, said this year’s “angels” have a little twist that makes gift-giving more meaningful.
“The Christmas Project has been in operation since 1987, but every year we always find a way to do things a little differently,” Walker said. “So in 2022, we are collecting toys for children again, but adding another ripple to the donation.”
That “ripple” will give donors a chance to recall fond memories of lost loved-ones.
:Christmas can be a joyful time for families, but it can also be a time of tough reflection for families who have lost someone dear to them,” Walker said. “That is especially true for families who have experienced a recent death or the loss of a child. It may feel as though the world is rushing by and the death of their loved one has been forgotten.
“So this year, people can donate a toy to the Christmas Project in memory of someone. Donors will fill out a gift tag (like the one shown here) that shows whom the toy is in memory of and who should get a special Christmas card to recognize that memorial.
“The Christmas Project will handle the mail portion; all donors have to do is purchase a toy, fill out a tag, and drop it off at the Brewton Chamber office.”
Deadline for toy drop-off will be Friday, Dec. 9. The Chamber offices are located inside Brewton City Hall at 1010 Douglas Avenue.
“Hopefully, this toy drive will serve as the perfect opportunity to show our love for people we know and people we haven’t met yet,” Walker said.
