Weather has not been All Stars' friend

Well, are you (or if your favorite team has been eliminated or has won their tournament have you) enjoyed the 2008 All Star season so far?
I don't know about you, but I have. We have seen our share of great wins and championships and we have seen our share of losses and seasons ending. One thing that we have seen is plenty of has been rain or weather delays.
Just this past Monday night at the Brewton YMCA Sports Park, the 11-and-12-year old game between the Brewton All Stars and the Andalusia All Stars and the championship game in the 9-and-10-year old All Stars, which was moved from East Brewton to Brewton, was delayed due to lightning in the area.
Speaking of the 9-and-10-year-old tournament in East Brewton, if I remember correctly right off the top of my head, that tournament lasted a week and two days because of the rain. The tournament had about three days of games canceled due to rain.
The 13-year-old Babe Ruth games in Evergreen had about two days of rainouts and the 14-year-old games in Monroeville saw one day of rainouts and a weather delay in the championship game of almost two hours.
The 10-and-11-year-old tournament in East Brewton had their Thursday games rained out.
Most recently in the 11-and-12-year-old tournament in Brewton, Sunday's games were rained out pushing all games back a day.
I know we have needed the rain as of late and I think we have got it.
I am not going to lie to you, having a day off because of the rain has been good at times, but in a way it is not good because it just delays the tournaments even more.
And if the total days games do not get rained out, as in the case on Monday, the games are pushed back until the weather clears and makes it where you do not leave the ball fields until about 11 p.m. or afterwards.
OK, that is enough about the weather. As of press time right now, we have both our 11-and-12-year-old Brewton and East Brewton All Stars in the losers bracket and they faced off against each other Tuesday night. The winner moves on in the tournament and the loser goes home.
We have three area teams that have won their district championships and will advance to the state tournaments.
Brewton's 13-year-old team won their district and will play at the state level in Andalusia. Brewton's 14-year-olds won their district and will play at the state level in Demopolis and the Brewton 10-and-11-year-olds will play at state in Sylacauga.
If what I have been hearing is correct, all games are on July 19.
If that is the case, I don't know why all games are on the same day, but at least our area teams will be there.
The advanced Babe Ruth 16-18-year-old teams have been announced and will play Thursday, July 10 in Mobile.
Congrats to all our area teams and players for a great all-star season and congrats to our state tournament teams.
Come on out to the ball fields and support your favorite teams and players.
Until Sunday when we meet again here or out on the ball fields, God bless.
