A 14-member committee is continuing their hard work this week in preparation for the July 4th celebration planned in East Brewton next Tuesday.
Steve Dunaway heads up the Fort Crawford Committee with planning and organizing the annual party.
Kristy Edwards, a member of the committee and clerk for the City of East Brewton, said much of the planning is complete with a few items left to organize.
“We have all of our usual acitivites planned and ready to go,” Edwards said. “We do still have a few slots to fill for entertainment for the early evening, but we have some wonderful entertainment already set for the day.”
The traditional activities will be the same this year and will feature a chance for area revelers to enjoy the day.
“Our spades tournament will begin at 9 a.m. at the East Brewton S.A.I.L. Center on Williamson Street,” Edwards said. “Couples can get in on the action for $10.”
With a chance at having some fun with the bonus of possibly winning a prize, Bingo games will begin at 1 p.m.
“We have set the price for Bingo at $2 per card,” Edwards said. “We already have some great prizes ready for winners during the afternoon.”
Edwards said concessions including drinks, snacks and grilled hamburgers and hot dogs will be available during spades and bingo sessions.
“We will also have our concessions at Fort Crawford Park beginning at around 4 p.m.,” Edwards said. “We will have our glow-in-the-dark items for sale beginning at around 6 p.m. with the duck race at 6 p.m.”
With local talent filling the afternoon hours with music, the finale entertainers will be Mancil Rock Mafia. The band will take the stage at 8 p.m.
Fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m. and will feature the work of Pyro Productions, a woman-owned fireworks and special-effects company based in Dothan.
“They do an excellent job for us every time we’ve used their company,” Edwards said. “We expect this year to be great.”
Snowden Street will be closed to through traffic from Pine Street to Forrest Avenue mid-afternoon on Tuesday and will be closed until the fireworks display is complete.
Parking along Forrest Avenue and near the Public Works Department facility at the foot of the Murder Creek Bridge will be open to the public.
“The fireworks usually draw a big crowd throughout the community,” East Brewton Mayor Terry Clark said. “We are hoping to have a lot of people at the park and at the events the Committee has worked hard to organize this year. We always have a good time and we hope to have a lot of friends join us for the celebration all day long.”
Fireworks will also be visible along many streets in Brewton and East Brewton as well as the park. The Lee Street Bridge will be closed to traffic prior to and during the fireworks display as workers conduct the show.
