A Brewton woman succumbed to injuries sustained in a mishap/crash that occurred in Century, Fla., on July 6.
Jessica Ann Mathis, died in a Pensacola, Fla., hospital on July 19 as a result of the injuries sustained in the incident.
Another victim died in the crash on the day of the incident. She was later identified as Jenny Teresa Ackerman of Brewton.
At the time of the incident the Florida Highway Patrol indicated that Mathis was the first of two victims struck by vehicles on U.S. 29 near Randolph Street around 8:30 p.m. on the night of the incident. Mathis was reportedly walking into the inside lane of the roadway as a truck swerved into the lane resulting in the strike that would eventually lead to her death.
Ackerman was attending to Mathis when she was struck by a second vehicle in the incident.
The first vehicle was driven by a Flatrock resident with the second vehicle being driven by a Brewton resident. Both vehicles were traveling southbound on U.S. 29 when the incident occurred. No charges have been filed.
