Mr. John Thomas “J.T.” Booker Sr., 85, of Belleville Avenue, died Saturday, July 19, 2008, at his residence after an extended illness. He was a native of Georgiana and a former resident of Evergreen before moving to Brewton 57 years ago. He was a barber for more than 65 years and owned and operated Booker's Barber Shop. He was a United States Army and Navy veteran having served in World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Brewton.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Snowden Booker of Brewton; two sons, John Thomas Booker Jr. of Big Pine, Fla., and Comby Snowden Booker of Brewton; four sisters-in-law, Betty Ruth Taylor of Hampton Cove, Kathryn Baldwin and Patricia “Patty” Law, both of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Jerolyn McManus of Mobile; and two grandchildren, Kate and Clayton Booker.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 22, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Evangelist Donald Baldwin, Elder Wayne Morris and Elder George Edwards officiating. Burial followed in Union Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
