The Brewton City Council met recently with several requests being presented requiring city approval for events planned in October.
The council agreed to approve a partial closure of Belleville Avenue on Oct. 28. The closure will allow safe travels for those participating in the annual Witches of Brewton ride fund raiser. The event, which will begin at the field house on the campus of T.R. Miller High School, will travel their usual route down Belleville Avenue and end at the mural at Market Park near downtown Brewton. The closure will span only a brief time during the afternoon of the ride.
The council also approved the use of city streets for the annual Homecoming Parade for T.R. Miller High School. That event is set for Friday, Oct. 20 and will use the usual route from Evergreen Avenue down St. Joseph Avenue and turning onto Belleville Avenue to disband around the Escambia County Courthouse.
The Council also approved the date for the annual Trick-or-Treat event for area residents. The date of Oct. 31 will be set aside for Halloween and trick-or-treater for area children from 5 to 8 p.m.
Brewton Police officials said the city will have additional patrols around the Belleville Avenue and adjacent street areas to ensure those who are walking in the area will have added protection against congested traffic.
In other business, the Council:
• approved a liquor license for HNM 102, LLC dba Diamond 14 in Brewton;
• approved an agreement with Avenu Revenue Recovery Services for the purpose of collection of lodging, sales and rental taxes due the City of Brewton.
The next meeting of the Brewton City Council will be held Monday, Sept. 25 at 4:30 p.m. in the council chambers at Brewton City Hall. The facility is located at 1010 Douglas Avenue. All meetings of the council are open to the public.
