East Brewton is hopeful that a new restaurant chain will be making their home in the city.
East Brewton Mayor Terry Clark said the Jack’s, a Birmingham-based company, is looking to expand into the area with a new restaurant.
“They have made some requests of the city to move the plan forward,” Clark said Monday. “We will be holding a special called meeting on Thursday to discuss those requests and take action.”
Clark said the special called meeting of the East Brewton City Council will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the council chambers at East Brewton City Hall.
“We are hopeful this deal will move forward for the city,” Clark said. “The company has chosen a spot for the location and it will be a good spot for a restaurant.”
Although Clark did not give the exact address for the proposed location, he did say it was on the main thororoughfare (Forrest Avenue) in the city.
“We have been working on getting something like this in our city,” Clark said. “We are working on another business as well to help boost our economy and have options for our citizens.”
Also during Monday’s meeting, the council:
• approved the letting of bids for demolition of a building/home on Schad Street;
• approved accessing a property tax lien on a now-demolished home on Victory Street with the lien amount of $3211.87;
• approved the reappointment of members of the Board of Adjustments to include David Blair – 3 years; Dewayne King – 2 years; Durwood Mantel – 1 year; and Jackie Rabren – 1 year.
