The sound of explosions greeted Escambia County Sheriff's Deputy Tim Anderson Friday as he arrived on the scene of a fire at Mose Tyree's junkyard in the Bethel community.
The structure fire was reported just before 1 p.m. Friday, and a number of fire departments were dispatched to the scene.
The explosions were caused from a variety of materials stored in the building, Escambia County Emergency Management Agency director David Adams said.
The hazardous materials team from the Brewton Fire Department was dispatched to handle the situation.
Firemen from nine fire departments were working on containing the blaze that fully engulfed a metal building on the property that is a junkyard near the Florida state line.
Anderson said no one was injured in the initial fire and explosions at the facility.
An investigation into the cause of the fire and explosions is under way.
Fire departments responding at the scene were Roberts Volunteer Fire Department, Dixonville Volunteer Fire Department, Baker Fire Department, Munson Volunteer Fire Department, NAS Pensacola Fire Department, Dixie Volunteer Fire Department, Boykin-Damascus Volunteer Fire Department and Brewton Fire Department.
Traffic along Escambia County 19 was delayed for more than three hours as a result of the incident.
