News may have already been known in the community, but a Saturday announcement means that one of T.R. Miller’s football player has landed a position with the University of Alabama’s Crimson Tide football program.
In a story released by Touchdown Alabama magazine, Myles Johnson of Brewton made his commitment known publicly in a special announcement via Twitter on Satuday.
Johnson is currently at junior at T.R. Miller High School and is now a part of the Crimson tide’s 2025 commitment recruits.
According to the TDA report, Alabama became the first Power 5 program to make an offer to Johnson during the summer when Nick Saban offered him after camp in June.
“It was honestly so surreal,” Johnson told Touchdown Alabama. “I came to camp without any stars. To be offered by a program like this is really a blessing, and I just thank God every day for putting me in this position. I also want to thank the coaching staff at Alabama and everyone at home for believing in me. It is truly a blessing.”
The T.R. Miller product could see himself getting recruited on both sides of the football in the future. The Tide like his potential at linebacker with his physical and fast playing style, TDA reported.
Johnson, who received an offer from UA this summer, made the solid commitment official over the weekend. The player also received an offer from Mississippi State University and Tuskegee University.
Johnson has not seen action as a Tiger this season due to an ACL injury suffered during summer practices.
Johnson has made several visits to Tuscaloosa over the past few months and told Bama On-Line reporters that he felt that he was going home with each visit.
“The first time I came back to visit after the camp, I automatically felt at home,” Johnson continued. “It was natural.”
Johnson collected an offer from Nick Saban himself back on June 1. He had a sensational camp showing that day, which led to a “lifetime dream” of his being fulfilled. Johnson has since taken a handful of trips to Bama, including the Texas game back on Sept. 9.
The 6-foot-1, 220-pounder told Saban the good news during Saturday’s visit to Alabama for the Arkansas game.
“They were excited,” Johnson said of the staff’s reaction. “[Coach Saban] said congratulations to me, and congratulations to them for being able to land me.”
Johnson also revealed how his family reacted to his decision to team up with the Crimson Tide.
“They were all excited,” Johnson said. “I’m one of the few Alabama fans in my family. They’re excited to switch over. People were throwing their favorite teams’ hats away. It was crazy.”
The plan for Johnson is to return to the Capstone for both the Tennessee (Oct. 21) and LSU (Nov. 4) games in the coming weeks.
Alabama is putting together a strong 2025 class.
Ever since Bama delivered an offer in early June, linebackers coach Robert Bala and defensive coordinator Kevin Steele have kept in consistent contact with Johnson.
“Coach Bala and I have built a great relationship, along with Coach Steele,” Johnson said. “They keep in touch with me every day or every other day. I appreciate them for keeping in contact with me.”
Alabama’s 2025 class currently checks in at No. 1 on the On3 Industry Ranking Football Team Recruiting Rankings. Along with the in-state prospects previously mentioned, Bama holds commitments from Jaime Ffrench (No. 11 overall) and Georgia-based offensive linemen Dontrell Glover and Mason Short.
“I think it’s great,” Johnson said of the group he’s joined. “I think it’s a class that if we can work together, only we stop us.”
