Saturday’s flight of the Witches of Brewton will be the third annual ride as a group of area residents join together for a charitable cause.
Meredith Buck, one of the original founders of the group, said the ride will feature witches of every imaginable sort.
The beneficiary for the fundraising ride for 2023 is Savannah Blackman, who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.
Buck said the ride is an just one way neighbors help neighbors in our community.
“We are honored to ride for Savannah this year,” Buck said. “She has been through many hospital stays away from her family to receive her rounds chemo, and recently she was hospitalized not associated with receiving treatment.
“We try to keep up with her updates and I know many of us “witches” are praying for her daily.
“After talking with her family, her mother-in-law and sister-in-law, it was apparent that she and her husband are surrounded by a great support system. It is evident how much she is loved.
“With the physical, emotional toll this disease has put her body through, and now going from a double income household to a single with added financial stress, we are very excited to raise funds to help this family through the process of fighting cancer.”
Buck said the more riders there are, the more funds can be gathered to help the family.
“We are hoping for a good turn out, on the ride and on the sidewalk!,” Buck said. “We tend to grow each year. Last year we had around 175 riders. I hope if anyone is on the fence about joining us, I hope they choose to! It’s all down hill and we will have transportation to get you and your bike back to the YMCA safely. Carts are welcome too! We hope many come to see the Witches and Warlocks of Brewton “flying” down Belleville Avenue. We can’t wait to see all the new and old witches.”
Savannah and her husband, Landon, are both natives and long-time residents of Brewton.
“We have 2 precious babies Holden, 4 and Audrey, 2,” Savannah said. “I also have a step-daughter, Kenley, that is 10. “
