Escambia County’s 4-H group is breaking records and getting dirty.

The 2023 Sweet Potato Challenge netted three special winners after judging was complete recently.

Taking the title for Highest Total Weight was Canaan Price. The young farmer harvested just over 41 pounds from six starter plant. He was able to manage and split the plants to create a relatively large harvest of the tuber.

Sophia Hoomes and Lora Luttrell were also winners with the biggest single potato and the next longest potato, respectively, in the growth challenge.

4-H officials expressed their thanks to those who participated and to Tractor Supply Co., for their generous donation of seeds and supplies for those participating in the challenge.
