The T.R. Miller Tigers traveled to Montgomery Friday night to face the Montgomery Catholic School Knights for the second round of 4A action. The Tigers went into the game after defeating Anniston in the first round of the playoffs at home. The Tigers carried a 8-3 record into Friday’s game.

The final score in Montgomery would see the end of play for the 2023 season for the Tigers as they fall to Montgomery Catholic, 24 to 7.

The Tigers would get on the board first during their second possession of the ball. Making steady progress down the field, Quarterback Nathan Commander reads the field well and finds the end zone for the only touchdown for the Tigers in the game. Garrison Little makes a good PAT kick and the Tigers lead early, 7-0.

In the second quarter of play, the Knights would find the end zone to tie the game, 7-0.

The Tigers would show good progress downfield, but an intercepted pass would give the Knights control. With the quick interception, the Knights find a path straight to the end zone and put another 7 on the board.

That score would go to the locker room at the half with the Knights ahead, 14 to 7.

As the Knights took possession first in the second half, they would be able to find some openings and make good on some runs putting another touchdown on the board. A good PAT and the Knights pull ahead, 21-7.

The Tigers would work the defense and hold the Knights back from the goal line forcing a field goal attempt. With a good kick from the 16-yard-line, the Knights widen their lead 24-7.

The Tigers would turn the ball over on downs in their next possession and the Knights would be forced to punt on their possession.

The fourth quarter would bring more punts from each team but the Tigers would make good on a possession by putting more points on the board. Commander’s pass to Eli Hubbert would be a wise move as Hubbert dashes across the goal line. Another good PAT kick and the Tigers close the gap to 24-14.

That would be the last score of the night putting the Tigers out of the running for a championship title.

The Tigers ended their season with an 8-4 record.
