Voter registration is up in Escambia County and across the state, elections officials have said.
The nomination of Democrat Barack Obama for president and Republican Sarah Palin for vice president makes the election results historic, no matter who wins the race.
Watson said interest in the election also led one resident to a unique Eagle Scout project.
Alabama Secretary of State Beth Chapman said her office is receiving around 200-300 registration applications daily.
The Secretary of State Elections Division employees said the numbers are much larger than in previous election cycles.
The higher voter registration numbers come on the heels of a 40 percent voter turnout in the February presidential primary in Alabama.
