The Brewton City School Board was forced to cut two part-time lunchroom positions Monday, but the board will still lose money on its Child Nutrition Service this year.
The school system lost 40 students who qualified for free lunch, which represented an $80,000 cut in state funding, Superintendent Lynn Smith said.
Smith said he expects more state funding cuts to come as the economy in Alabama slows down.
Lawmakers have already discussed the possibility of proration when they meet in February for the next regular legislative session.
On the ballot Nov. 4 will be Amendment One, which would allow the state to borrow more from the state education trust fund.
But he said the amendment is not a long-term solution for education funding.
