On Monday afternoon, members of the Brewton City School Board held a meeting of the group to conduct business including naming the system’s new superintendent.
After two rounds of ballot voting, board members agreed to make an offer to Kevin Wieseman for the position of Superintendent with the system.
In the first round of voting, each of the five candidates for the position were on the ballot. In that first round, the top vote getters were Kevin Wieseman and Kyle Ferguson. Those two names advanced to the final round of voting by members of the board.
In the final vote, Wieseman received three votes while Ferguson received two.
With that vote, Board Member Regina Watson made a motion to offer the seat to Wieseman. The motion was seconded by Board Member Sylvia Brundidge and the board agreed with their unanimous aye.
Wieseman currently serves as principal at Florence High School and has held similar positions at Florence Middle School and Lee High School.
He has also served as Director of Athletics and Extracurricular Activities as well as Director of Instructional Support and teacher/coach in the Huntsville City Schools system.
He earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Alabama in Secondary Education: Biology and History and a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education: Biology; a Master’s Degree from the University of Alabama in Administration; an Education Specialist Degree from the University of North Alabama in Instructional Leadership K-12; and an EdD from Murray State University in P20 and Community Leadership with anticipated completion this year.
The next steps in the process will be to contact Wieseman with an offer for the position. Should he accept the offer, negotiations for his contract will begin.
The Brewton City School Board members voted to give authority to Board President Ann Peach and Board Attorney Kirk Garret to negotiate the terms of the contract with Wieseman. No specific date for assuming the position has been set.
