A 17-year-old Mobile resident was arrested last week and charged with the murder of Aubrey “Mackie” Jackson of Brewton.
Tyrek A. Ball was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Mobile last week and was transferred to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton to face the charges of murder.
Due to the suspect’s juvenile status, court proceedings are not open to the public.
Jackson was found deceased on Aug. 17 along the side of Appleton Road near the Conecuh County line according to reports from the Escambia County Sheriff’s office. Jackson’s death was ruled a homicide as the investigation determined he died from a gun shot wound.
After weeks of investigation, a suspect was identified and the arrest of Ball resulted in the murder charge against him.
Escambia County Sheriff Heath Jackson said the investigation revealed evidence that indicated the murder was the result of a drug deal gone wrong.
“During the investigation we followed up on tips and other information and learned that Tyrek Ball was one of the people involved in the shooting,” Jackson said. “It appears to be a drug related crime.”
Sheriff Jackson said once the residency of Ball was determined, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office began working with Mobile County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals to bring Ball to justice.
“With the collaboration of Mobile Police Department and the U.S. Marshals, Ball was taken into custody in Mobile,” Jackson said. “We were waiting to return him back to Escambia County to face charges.”
Sheriff Jackson said the investigation into the case could result in other arrests and asks that anyone with information concerning Mackie Jackson’s death contact the Escambia County Sheriff’s office at 251-809-0471.
