Danny Benjamin has officially qualified as the Democratic candidate for the Escambia County School Board District 2, a position he has held since 1988. With a steadfast commitment to educational excellence, Benjamin is seeking re-election to continue his work for the students and families of Escambia County.
Benjamin is a lifelong resident of District 2, he has deep roots in the community, having been raised in the Springhill area. His extensive experience includes serving as Chaplain for the WS Neal High School football team and a distinguished career as a Safety Regulatory Technician at ExxonMobil USA, where he dedicated over 33-1/2 years of service. Additionally, Benjamin has been a pastor for 38 years, ministering to the Brewton, Castleberry, and Repton communities.
Benjamin is married to the former Janet Newman (22 years). They are active members at the Second Saint John Baptist Church, Springhill Community. Together, they have three sons/one daughter, Danny Joshua, David Nicholas, Daniel Jonathan, and Andrea Monique, and three grandchildren, Charles Jr, Chelsea, and Danny Joshua (DJ) Jr.
“I serve on the school board because I am passionate about every student’s and teacher’s well-being,” said Benjamin. “My goal is to promote a spirit of excellence in our classrooms and to give back to the school system that has greatly impacted my life and my family’s life.”
Benjamin highlights significant improvements in recent years, “I’m most proud of our 2023-24 test scores as one of the most improved top Twenty schools in the State of Alabama and enhanced access to technology for all students.” He is proud of the district’s accomplishments and remains focused on ensuring that every child has the resources they need to succeed.
In his campaign, Benjamin emphasizes the importance of a collaborative approach among the Board, Staff, and Community to fulfill the mission of Escambia County Schools: “To provide a safe, rigorous, and engaging learning environment that promotes healthy, respectful, resourceful, and responsible life-long learners.” Danny’s vision focuses on not only preparing students for college and careers, but also ensuring that teachers have the necessary tools and resources to foster a spirit of excellence in the classroom.
Every child deserves a safe and functional learning environment where they can thrive. Benjamin states. “As a Board member, my top priority is the safety and well-being of our students, teachers, and support staff. I am proud of the recent strides we have made in improving our educational system, from enhanced technology access to robust security measures.”

Benjamin highlights the commitment to professional development for teachers, ensuring they are equipped with the skills necessary to inspire and engage their students.
