Incumbent Danny Benjamin had 965 votes or 46.46 percent of the votes.
Provisional ballots are yet to be counted in all races.
Dawkins made his splash several months ago on social media and in political signs throughout the community.
“I’m not just running for a position,” Dawkins said in his campaign. “I’m running with a plan.”
Dawkins has pledged to work with current board members to look for new ways to make the Escambia County School System all that it can be for students, teachers and staff. Some areas he has pledged to address include a dress code policy revision, protecting parental rights, true information transparency, student voice representation, advisors for students, expanding vocational tech resources and protecting the students.
Dawkins will be sworn into the office during a ceremony set for Nov. 15 at 2:30 p.m. at the Escambia County School Board office on Belleville Avenue.
