It was a cold Saturday evening making the annual lighting of the holiday lights event even more special.
Mayor Yank Lovelace, and his wife Sally, were on hand to flip the switch to officially light the holiday lights around Brewton.
As the switch was operated, the musical tree at Brewton City Park in downtown Brewton came to life. The switch also signified the official lighting of lights around the city including Dogwood Hills Park and Jennings Park.
Snow machines cranked up and created a winter atmosphere for the hundreds on hand for the annual event.
Prior to the lighting of the lights, members of the T.R. Miller and Brewton Middle School choirs performed a variety of Christmas favorite tunes for those attending the event.
Each of the city’s three parks will offer unique holiday experiences from train rides, visits with elves, snow and plenty of entertainment through Dec. 24.
At Brewton City Park, dubbed the Sugarplum Park for the holidays, the animated Christmas tree will perform nightly from 5 to 10 p.m. with snow machines running from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
At Jennings Park, also known as CeleBrewton Station, train rides will be offered Thursday through Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 1 to 7 p.m. and Sundays 1 to 5 p.m.
At Dogwood Hills Park, Christmas village tours will be available Thursday through Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.; Saturdays from 1 to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. The park also plays host to a second animated Christmas tree with music and lights.
