America will celebrate its military veterans Tuesday, a day set aside to honor those who have served and those who given the ultimate sacrifice to their country.
Even though we are involved in two wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, it seems we still often take our military for granted.
While we go about our days doing ordinary things, members of our military are spending long months away from home in foreign lands, trying to protect the people there and the freedoms we all cherish.
Tthe work they do - work many of us cannot even imagine - helps secure democracy at home and abroad.
Our community has found two ways to honor veterans this past week.
The City of Brewton on Friday began airing a special Veterans Day program, featuring local veterans speaking the words to the Johnny Cash song “The Old Ragged Flag.”
And at T.R. Miller Mill, veterans were given with the gift of a flag to be flown at the mill in their honor.
These are two unique tributes to the men and women who have served our country in the military, whether during peace or war.
It's amazing how many people, from all walks of life and all professions, have served in the military.
The gift they have given to their country and to all of us is immeasurable, and we owe them a debt of gratitude.
