April Dawn Busby
East Brewton
April Dawn Busby, 40, of East Brewton, passed away January 11, 2025, at her residence.
She was born November 29, 1984, in Mobile, daughter of the late Larry Wayne Busby and Carolyn Myrick Busby.
She is survived by her son, Peyton Rowell; mother, Carolyn Myrick Busby; brothers, Derek (Chelsea) Busby, Paul (Jernigan) Busby; nieces, Paisley Busby, Kyleigh Busby, Wyleigh Busby; nephew, Wyatt Busby; and special friends, Dennis Lisenby, Tiffany Andrews, Nicole Darby, Brenda McQueen, Katie Odom, Neicy Godwin, Brandi Jackson and Stacy McGowan.
She was preceded in death by her father, Larry Wayne Busby; her grandfather, James ‘Jim’ Presley Myrick; grandmother, B. Montez Myrick; grandfather, Dorsey Davenport Busby; and grandmother, Hereford Gowery Busby.
Friends will be received Thursday, January 16, 2025, from noon to 1:00 p.m. at Faith Chapel Church located at 825 Dailey Street in East Brewton.
A Celebration of Life will be on Thursday, January 16, 2025 from Faith Chapel Church in East Brewton at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Steve Massengill officiating.
Interment will be in Catawba Springs Cemetery in Brewton.
Martin Funeral Home in Clanton is in charge of arrangements.
James William Wesley Carter
Castleberry
Mr. James William Wesley Carter, 63, of Castleberry, passed away Monday, January 6, 2025 in an Evergreen hospital after a brief illness.
He was a native and long time resident of Brewton before moving to Castleberry. Mr. Carter was of the Baptist faith, a 1980 graduate of T.R. Miller High School, and a retired fork lift operator from T.R. Miller Mill Company with 43 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going to the mountains.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jeanie Hammac Carter of Castleberry; three children, Lamar (Jessi) Carter of Brewton, Heather (Lance) Carter of Georgia and Kristan Carter of Milton, Fla.; two brothers, Joey Carter of Castleberry and David Carter of East Brewton; five grandchildren, Raven, Tracie, Cheyenne, Hunter and Cameron; and one grandchild on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Idelia Bates Carter.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 9, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Brewton, who was in charge of arrangements.
Khristi Murphy Ates
Lucedale, Miss.
Mrs. Khristi Murphy Ates, 55, of Dickerson Sawmill Road in Lucedale, Miss., passed away Thursday, January 9, 2025 at her residence after a brief illness.
She was a native of Mobile, and a long time resident of Brewton before moving to Mississippi.
Mrs. Ates was of the Pentecostal faith, a 1986 graduate of W.S. Neal High School, and a former police dispatcher from the Brewton Police Department with 15 years of service. She loved her family and enjoyed watching baseball and football.
She is survived by her mother, Nell Murphy of Brewton; her husband of 23 years, James Ates of Lucedale, Miss.; one son, Austin (Winnie) Ates of Atmore; one daughter, Autumn (Jacob) Stallworth of Atmore; two sisters, Dana (Tim) Boggs of Brewton and Kina (Ronnie) Burkett of Brewton; a granddaughter, Esther Stallworth; a sister-in-law, Samantha (Corey) Walley; and nieces, Bella Walley and Jayden Walley.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Murphy; mother-in-law, Alice Fuqua; and a niece, Hannah Bodiford.
Funeral Services were held Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Boggs officiating. Interment followed in Elim Cemetery in Brewton.
