The National Weather Service in Mobile has issued some warnings ahead of what has been described as “Bitter Cold” expected to cover much of South Alabama over the weekend.

According to NWS information, the front moving through the area on Saturday will bring in arctic temperatures as early as Sunday morning and will continue through the middle of the week.

A strong cold front will push across the region on Saturday night. Behind it, arctic air will move into the area and linger through the middle of next week. We are also concerned about the potential for winter precipitation next Tuesday/Wednesday. Although the overall potential of winter precip has increased over the past 24 hours, there are still many unknowns at this point and the overall extent of impacts (if any) is of low confidence.
