Despite a national economy still causing headaches, many local residents are optimistic about 2009 and the chances for an economic recovery by the end of the year.
Clark noted that Brewton and East Brewton are faring well despite the national economy.
Clark said the new administration could also help spark an economic recovery.
Probate Judge Emilie Mims shares that optimism. She noted that south Alabama has a lot to look forward to - including the Poarch Creek casino in Atmore and new jobs at other facilities, including the ThyssenKrupp steel mill in Mobile.
Spike Maxwell, a local insurance broker who has done work in investments, said he sees some hard days ahead - but he is optimistic about the future.
Eddie Nall, senior vice president at the Bank of Brewton, said he is wary of the upcoming days.
