JD falls by two after rally against LBW

In a battle of two teams with just one win between them Thursday night at Warhawk gym, LBW held on to defeat Jefferson Davis 78-76 to keep the Warhawks winless on the season.
JDCC dropped to 0-13 overall and 0-3 in the conference after the two-point loss.
After being down by two points at the half, 33-31, both teams scored 45 points in the second half as JDCC fell.
Down by eight points with 1:51 left to go in the game, JDCC went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 75-73 with 57.4 seconds left to play.
After fouling LBW on their next offensive possession, LBW hit their first free throw but missed their second to take a 76-73 lead with 35.7 seconds left.
JDCC's Will Dupont then connected for a 3-pointer, JDCC's 10th 3-pointer of the game, to tie the game at 76-76 with 26.1 seconds left to play.
LBW then hit both free throws after a JDCC foul to take e 78-76 lead with 18.2 seconds left and a late-second JDCC 3-pointer failed as the Warhawks lost by two points, 78-76.
In the first half of the game Thursday night, the half was a half of long scoring runs for both teams.
LBW had the first run as they went on a 12-0 run to take a 14-4 lead with 14:00 left to play in the first after holding JDCC scoreless for just over four minutes.
After the 12-0 run for LBW, JDCC returned the favor wit a 16-0 run to take a 23-19 lead with 6:32 left to play.
JDCC held the Saints scoreless for 5:06 in the half.
From the JDCC run, LBW outscored JDCC 11-8 the remainder of the half to hold a 33-31 lead at the half.
In the second half, LBW used an 8-0 run to claim a 46-38 lead and then used a 7-0 run to have a 59-47 lead with 10:18 left to play in the game.
With 2:57 left to play, JDCC benefited from a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 70-65. LBW ended the Warhawk run and took a 72-65 with 2:47 left in the game.
JDCC then ended the half on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to two points and eventually tied the game, but fell short 78-76.
Will Dupont led JDCC with 22 points and Brandon Howard added 15 points in the loss. Jonathan Pascley added 12 points for JDCC and DeAngelo Kirkland had nine points. Tysean Thompson added seven points and Justin Burroughs had six points. Fred Underwood added five points for JDCC.
Dupont and Howard both had four 3-pointers each and Underwood had one and Tysean Thompson had one in the loss.
The Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk basketball team is still searching for their first win of the season after dropping two games over the week in earlier games.
JDCC will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 23 when they travel to Enterprise of Ozark.
MSGCCC 82, JDCC 74
Trailing only by two points at the half, the Warhawks were outscored 44-38 in the second half as they fell by eight points to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
JDCC was outscored 38-36 in the first half.
Thompson led the Warhawks with 15 points and was joined with two other players in double figures with Pascley and Kirkland each scoring 12 points in the loss.
Dupont added eight points and Howard also having eight points. Justin Burroughs chipped in nine points in the loss.
Pascley added two blocks for JDCC and Howard had five assists. Kirkland had seven rebounds to lead JDCC.
The Warhawks were 32-of-79 from the field for 41 percent and was 4-of-6 from the free throw line for 67 percent.
While JDCC only shot six free throws, Mississippi Gulf Coast shot 31 free throws.
One low point of the game for JDCC was Deforest Taite going down with a bad ankle sprain before even scoring a point.
Chatt-Valley 74, JDCC 45
JDCC fell to 0-12 and 0-2 with a 29-point loss to Chattahoochee Valley.
JDCC was outscored 34-18 in the first half and 40-27 in the second half.
Chase Cornelius led JDCC with 10 points followed by seven from Dupont.
Underwood and Howard each chipped in six points in the loss for the Warhawks.
