On a cold Tuesday night in Brewton the T.R. Miller Tigers were “lights out” against Choctaw County as they swept Choctaw County to improve to 8-10 overall and 4-4 in area play.
The Tigers defeated Choctaw County 11-3 in game one and 19-5 in game two to improve their record.
T.R. Miller was set to end their 2009 season Friday on the road against Cottage Hill in an area game in Mobile.
Game one: T.R. Miller 11, Choctaw County 3
Trailing 3-2 after three innings of play in game one, T.R. Miller rallied with two runs in the fourth inning, six in the fifth and one in the sixth to defeat Choctaw County 11-3 in the first game of the doubleheader in Brewton.
Trent Robinson led the Tigers at the plate offensively in game one. Robinson was 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
Robinson’s hits included a single, double, and a two-run homerun in the fifth to help aid in the six-run inning.
Conner Denton was 2-for-3 with one RBI and Wes Dickey was 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Rob Knowles was 2-for-4 with two RBIs including a single and a triple.
Corey Rilling was 1-for-4 with a double in the game.
Both teams scored one run in the first inning and Choctaw County grabbed a 3-1 lead in the top of the third with two runs in the inning.
T.R. Miller cut the lead to 3-2 with a run in the bottom of the third inning before scoring nine total over the next three innings.
Sam Sharpe took the win on the mound for T.R. Miller.
Sharpe went the complete game seven innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits, walked one, and struck out 13 in the win.
Game two: T.R. Miller 19, Choctaw County 5
After a two-hour first game between the two teams, the Tigers battled through no power on the home dugout side of the field for half the game before claiming a 19-5 win.
The Tigers trailed 2-0 after the first inning, but scored six runs in the first inning to claim a 6-2 lead.
Choctaw County cut the lead to 6-5 in the top of the second inning, but the Tigers scored seven runs in the second inning to hold a 13-5 lead and then scored six runs in the fourth inning and held Choctaw County scoreless to get the 14-run win in five innings.
John Mathieu took the win on the mound for the Tigers.
Mathieu went four innings and allowed five runs on three hits, struck out five and walked three.
Wil Riggs closed the game in the fifth inning with one inning of work.
Riggs went one inning and allowed no runs, no hits and struck out one.
Denton was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in the win and Garrett Robinson was 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Dickey was 1-for-3 with one RBI and Sharpe was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Grant DeFrancisco had two RBIs and Rilling Harrison Horton was 1-for-1 with a double and two RBIs.
Cody Swain was 2-for-2 with one RBI.
