Mr. Jack McGowin, 85, died Friday, April 17, 2009, at his residence on Dailey Street in East Brewton after an extended illness. He was a long time resident of East Brewton. He was retired from T.R. Miller Mill Company after 42 years of service as a machinist. He served on the East Brewton City Council and was instrumental in the organization of the first Boy Scout troop in the area. He was an active member of the East Brewton Church of the Nazarene. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Sam McGowin, Willie McGowin, and Clarence McGowin; his sisters, Adeline Tillery, Ruby Cooper and Trudy Tidwell.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Lois McGowin; a brother, Charles Arthur McGowin; three sisters-in-law, Alameta McGowin, Pauline McGowin and Opal McGowin; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 20, at 11 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene with Dr. James Meadows and the Rev. Herbert Heller officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Memorial Gardens with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were his nephews, Sammy McGowin, Robert Watson, Jerry Bain, Greg Watson, Patrick Blair, Gawain Walker, Joshua Jackson and James Jackson.
