W.S. Neal athletic director and head football coach Blaine Hathcock resigned Tuesday to accept a coaching position in Haleyville, Principal Philip Ellis said.
Hathcock, who just completed his fourth year with the Eagles, went 2-8 this season in football and had a combined overall record of 22-21 at W.S. Neal, his first head coaching job.
Hathcock led the Eagles to back-to-back wins over T.R. Miller in 2006 and 2007, their first win over T.R. Miller in 10 years and first back-to-back wins since 1971 and 1972.
During the 2008-2009 basketball season, Hathcock took the reigns as head coach and coached W.S. Neal to a 15-12 record.
Ellis said he along with a search committee will be formed at looking at possible coaches to replace Hathcock.
Current W.S. Neal Eagle assistant coach and defensive coordinator Kevin Jordan will be the interim coach for the Eagles, Ellis said.
Jordan said he will lead the team in summer workouts set to begin May 28 and throughout the summer until a decision is reached.
