After a “tough” week for the T.R. Miller Tigers, T.R. Miller used Anthony Herbert’s four touchdowns to defeat Escambia County Friday night in Brewton 27-12.
The Tiger offense scored 13 points in the second quarter and 14 in the fourth quarter to claim the 15-point win.
Herbert had touchdown runs of 3, 7, 5, and 2 yards in the win and rushed for 154 yards on 32 carries in the win. The Tiger offense had 362 total yards of offense with 197 coming on the ground and 165 in the air.
The Tiger offense struggled early in the game as they had an interception on their first drive after a five-play drive and a fumble on their next drive.
On the third drive of the night for the Tigers, Herbert found the end zone at the 4:35 mark in the second quarter for his first of four touchdowns after a scoreless first quarter for both teams.
The Tiger defense held Escambia County to 181 total yards, 103 on the ground and 78 in the air.
The most important thing was holding Escambia County quarterback Rico Stallworth to 72 yards on 10 carries and only one touchdown on the ground.
After posting 27 points last week against Leeds in the Champions Challenge, Riggs said he would find out what his team was like after two hard games and teams against Leeds and Escambia County in week one of the season.
After Herbert gave T.R. Miller a 7-0 lead with 4:35 in the second quarter, Herbert scored with 1:35 left before the half to give the Tigers a 13-0 lead after a bad snap on the PAT.
Escambia County cut the lead to 13-6 with 6.7 seconds left before the half as the Tigers led by seven at the break.
Escambia County cut the lead to 13-12 with 1:00 left in the third quarter, but T.R. Miller blocked the PAT to keep the one-point lead.
That would be the final scoring of the night for Escambia County as T.R. Miller took a 20-12 lead with 7:31 left in the fourth quarter and added another score at the 3:50 mark after an Escambia County fumble on the ensuing drive.
The score would give T.R. Miller a 15-point and the held Escambia County to a four-and-out with 2:47 left in the game to get the win.
