More than a dozen adult actors are needed to stage a “new” play by Mark Twain, the latest production from the Brewton Community Theatre.
Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 at the theatre’s building in downtown Brewton, the old BOSSCO building.
BCT member Connie Parker said she is excited about the play, which is a comedy.
The play is based on the love life of Jean-Francois Millet, a young painter, who is in love with Marie Leroux and in debt to Bastien  Andre, who threatens foreclosure and debtor’s prison unless Marie marries Andre.
In the belief that painters achieve fame and fortune after death, Millet fakes his own death and passes himself off as his twin sister, the Widow Tiliou. This only leads to another problem of returning from death so that he might marry Marie, leaving the audience laughing at his antics.
Mark Twain wrote the play in 1898, but it was never printed during his lifetime and was filed away and forgotten in his papers for more than a century.
The play will be performed Nov. 20, 21 and 22 at Jefferson Davis Community College’s Woodfin Auditorium. Tickets will go on sale Sept. 29 and may be purchased from any member of the BCT or call 867-5456 or 809-0989. The tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children and students.
